I have googled to see if I can find any work or a portfolio of the instructors, with no much online. I would like to see some of their work. This will be a good opportunity for aspiring Maldivian photographers and also the instructor's portfolio of work. I would like to read something from the instructors about how they define their medium of work, and what they would like to explore in this workshop. So far what I have read on Maldivian Flickr Photographer's forum is very vague. And a huge 'technical' discussion about DSLR cameras. I would like to see something more than that.

Art> Maldivian> Art>
Questioning the value of art in a place like this>
Art at its core could be defined as human expression of our limited capacity to comprehend our own existence.> art is purely a response, to understand the questions we impose on ourselves. Art is only good when it “responds”, and fails when it attempts to “answer”. Thus the line is drawn between Arts, Religion & Science. Art differs in the sense it doesn’t attempt to know the answers, but create more questions in response to it. Thus questioning, only our ability to question, and in the process our inability to answer.
Art is of value because it demands answers from institutions which claims to have all the answers. Institute like Religion and Science. Art is of value because it gives each individual the right and capacity to question conventional wisdom and absolutions. In a place like Maldives, where answers are preached before anyone even posed a question, the importance of this right is immense.
Art is of value because it doesn’t claim human or anything, any higher ground or authority on the truth. There is no room for contradiction in religion or science, and unlike both of these institutions, Art is all about contradicting itself. It’s continual, and never bound to the past. The only history it values is its own, but can never be questionable to it. Only by allowing ourselves this freedom, can we truly create art, and only by creating art can we truly exist in the present.

I absolutely love the collage of the young boy - the details, the shadows and the colours as well as how he has captured the boy's expression with pieces of "human skin". It almost looks like a watercolor don't you think?

How interesting to note the school's attitude towards him entering the competition - even though he won an award.
